Short Description:

The plaque commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the General Assembly is located at the entrance to the House of Assembly in Nassau's Parliament Square.

House of Assembly

A shield shaped plaque on the left side of the entrance to the House of Assembly building commemorates the 200th anniversary of the creation of the General Assembly. The plaque has a bas relief image of a three masted sailing ship at the top. Above the ship is the fascinating Latin inscription:

EXPULSIS PIRATIS – RESTITUTA COMMERCIA
(Pirates Expelled – Commerce Restored)

KING GEORGE THE SECOND AS THE RESULT OF THE EFFORTS OF
GOVERNOR WOODES ROGERS

THAT ASSEMBLY ON THE
29TH DAY OF SEPTEMBER
1729

The stamp was issued on September 27, 1979 as part of a set of four stamps commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Parliament of the Bahamas.
