Long Description:

The aloe industry in Aruba was founded in 1890 by Cornelis Eman, who founded the present day Aruba Aloe Balm N.V., the oldest aloe company in the world and one of the first companies to formulate and manufacture aloe based products.

The tour starts under a divi-divi tree, next to the aloe fields where an employs describes the growing process of the aloe vera plant and demonstrated the removal of the core of the leaves from which the aloe products are made. The tour then goes inside where the aloe is processed and each of the stages of processing are explained such as the aloe cutting room, the testing lab, the filling room, and packing and storage. The tour ends with a visit to the gift shop where you can buy aloe products and the museum with exhibits about the history of aloe.

The aloe vera field extends for 590 feet along Pitastraat and is 450 feet deep at its westernmost boundary. All the aloe plants used to create their products is harvested from this field.



The stamp was issued by Aruba as part of a set of 3 stamps on January 27, 1988 to commemorate aloe production in Aruba.
