Long Description:

According to Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marigot_Bay

"The all-girl trio Arabesque featured a song 'Marigot Bay' appearing on the album of the same name in 1980."

It is a song about dreaming about a lost love and their experience on the beach at Marigot Bay.

Musician: Arabesque

Lyrics:

Each night I dream
The same old dream
I cannot forget it seems
The beach where I found you
Where I lost you too
I see the strand
The silv'ry sand
We are going hand in hand
Like we used to do
Like we used to do

[Chorus:]
Marigot Bay
Paradise of the blue lagoon
Tell me, why you are haunting me
By night and by day
Marigot Bay
Paradise of the blue lagoon
Where my heart was all aflame
I will never forget your name
Oh, Marigot Bay

You said to me:
You must believe
Darling that I've never been
So in love before
So in love before
Our love was strong
That nights were long
But one morning you were gone
Gone for ever more

Gone for ever more

Petit and Gros Pitons, the Pitons, are locate on the southwest coast of the island of St. Lucia, south of the town of Soufriere.

Long Description:

The Pitons are the most famous and photographed landmarks in St Lucia. They have become the signature set image of the island of St. Lucia. The nearer and steeper peak is Petit Piton, which is 1 km in diameter and 743 meters high. The farther peak is Gros Piton, which is 3 km in diameter and 771 meters high. Between them is the Piton Mitan ridge. The Pitons Management Area are a UNESCO world heritage site.

Both peaks are volcanic in origin. They were created when magma hardened within the vent of an active volcano. When the volcano ceased to be active the surrounding rock eroded exposing the harder solidified magma plug, thus producing these distinctive upright landforms.

The Pitons are part of the Soufriere Volcanic Centre complex which are the remains of a huge collapsed stratovolcano. The volcanic complex overlies a tectonic plate subduction zone which forms a 700 km volcanic arc along the Lesser Antilles in the eastern Caribbean.

The iconic view of both Pitons shown on the stamp can only be seen from a watercraft sailing west of the town of Soufriere in Soufriere Bay. The top stamp was issued in 1938 as part of a set of 17 stamps. The bottom stamp was issued in 2003 as the higher value of a pair of definitive stamps.

DIED JUNE 15, 1991

Obituary published in the New York Times: Web link

Sir W. Arthur Lewis, a Princeton University professor emeritus who was an adviser to several nations and won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science in 1979, died on Saturday at his home in Barbados. He was 76 years old.

Sir Arthur was considered a leading authority on economic growth and political and social change in emerging nations. He shared the economics prize with Theodore W. Schultz, a University of Chicago professor, for research into economic development "with particular consideration of the problems of developing countries."

In 1954, he published what many economists considered one of the first academic works in this area, "The Theory of Economic Growth." He also wrote 11 other books and more than 80 monographs and articles.

William Arthur Lewis was born on St. Lucia in 1915 and was educated at the University of London, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1937 and a doctorate in 1940. He taught there until 1948, when he left for the University of Manchester. He was named vice chancellor of the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1959.

He joined Princeton's faculty in 1963 and was named the James Madison Profesor of Political Economy. He taught undergraduate and graduate courses in economic development and modern economic history.

Students praised Sir Arthur's courses for focusing on ideas rather than numbers. He retired in 1983.

He had been named an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1962.

Sir Arthur is survived by his wife, Gladys Jacobs Lewis of Barbados and Princeton, N.J.; two daughters, Elizabeth Lewis of Cranbury, N.J., and Barbara Lewis of Brooklyn; and four brothers, Stanley Lewis of Ghana, Earl Lewis of Trinidad, Allen Lewis, a former Governor General of St. Lucia, and Victor Lewis of St. Lucia.

N 13° 50.371 W 061° 02.796

Short Description:

The Sulphur Springs Volcano Mud Baths are located at the only drive-in volcano the world at Sulphur Springs Access Rd. in the Soufriere Volcano, St. Lucia.

Long Description:

Visitors to the world's only drive-in volcano may bring their bathing suits and enjoy the hot mineral waters of the Mud Baths. Soufriere's Sulphur Springs Volcano consist of twenty-four steaming vents, discharging various minerals among them such as sulphur, iron, copper oxide and magnesium. Water flows downhill from the volcano and cools along the way to a comfortable 37 Celsius (100 degrees Fahrenheit). The stream of spring water carries along with it not only a wide variety of minerals but a copious amounts of mud as well.

To take advantage of the reputed healing properties of the warm, mineral rich water, the stream is impounded to form a rectangular bath. For a small fee (US $5) you may enter the impounded area, change into your bathing suit, and wallow in the muddy water. For added therapeutic value you are supposed to dig mud from the bottom and smear it over your body. There are separate connected areas to immerse yourself or to merely get your feet wet.

Workers will venture upstream to collect mud in buckets to insure that there is an ample supply. For those who prefer, there is an natural pool of water below the impoundment. This area also contains a fresh water shower so you can rinse out your bathing suit and wash the mud off your body.

The Sulphur Springs drive-in volcano and Mud Baths are among the top tourist attractions of St. Lucia.
