Quick Description: 

The statue of Atlas is located at 630 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

Long Description:

Opposite St. Patrick's Cathedral at the Fifth Avenue entrance to Rockefeller Center stands a colossal 15' high, 7 ton bronze sculpture of Atlas holding an 21' diameter armillary sphere composed of three interlocking rings.  The sphere has images the twelve zodiac signs and has an axis pointing to the North Star.   The Art Deco Atlas stands on a 9' high two tiered granite pedestal. The total height of the sculpture is 45 feet, as high as a four story building. The sculpture was created by Lee Oskar Lawrie in collaboration with Rene Paul Chambellan and installed on Fifth Avenue in 1937.
