A fountain with a sculpture of a boy riding on a mermaid, called Water Nymphs, is located in Esplanade Park in downtown Helsinki, Finland.
Long Description:
The bronze Water Nymphs fountain was created by Viktor Jansson. The 115 cm high sculpture, also known as "Play", was commissioned by the City of Helsinki and installed, in 1942, in a rectangular pool on the north east corner of the Esplanade Park in downtown Helsinki. It is one of two sculpture created by Viktor Jansson to be installed in Esplanade Park.
The sculpture depicts a young boy of toddler age sitting on the tail of a mermaid. His arms and legs are outstretched in an expression of joy. The mermaid is perched on the leaves of a plant looking back at the boy. Behind the mermaid a fish shoots water into a rectangular pool.
