Short Description:

The allegorical sculptures Science and Art are located in front of the Boston Public Library at 700 Boylston Street in Boston, MA.


Long Description: 

Bela Lyon Pratt created the pair of seated allegorical figures that flank the entrance to the Boston Public Library opposite Copley Square. Each bronze robed female figure is about  7' by 5' by 4' and is seated in the middle of a 5' by 14' by 5' inscribed granite base. Science holds a sphere in her  left hand.  Art holds an artist palette in her left hand and a paint brush in her right hand. The sculptures were installed in 1911.
