Quick Description:
Annual gathering of
artistically carved pumpkins in Keene, NH
Long Description:
On the fourth Saturday in October thousands people from Keene and the Monadnock region of New Hampshire converge on downtown Keene. Many will bring artistically carved pumpkins to be put on display during the annual Pumpkin Festival. At twilight teams of volunteers will light the pumpkins. More than 30,000 votive candles are used to light all these jack-o-lanterns. The pumpkins are tallied with the hope of breaking the world record for lit pumpkins.
According to the Guinness World Record, the Keene Pumpkin Festival in 2003 had made the record of 28,952. This record, however was eclipsed by Boston (a much larger city) with over 30,000 pumpkins. In addition to the pumpkins, there is a parade, contests, music, food, and craft vendors and a display of fireworks rounding out the festival.
In 2012 the Keene Pumpkin Festival will be held on Saturday, October 20. Pumpkin drop off is at Central Square and Court St. - the location of the coordinates.
