Topic: Castle
GPS: N57° 02.439; W003° 13.793
Quick Description:
Balmoral Castle - Home of the British Royal Family in Scotland.
Long Description:
Queen Victoria purchased this 50,000 acre (20,000 hectare) estate in 1848. The existing house was considered to be too small and was demolished and replaced by the current castle. Construction was completed in 1856. Ever since it has been the Scottish Home of the British Royal Family.
The Estate covers about 20,000 hectares (just over 50,000 acres), along the River Dee, in a hilly, wooded area of the southern highlands of Scotland. The meticulously maintained grounds, woodlands, and architecture have been preserved by the Royal Family for all to enjoy.
The grounds, gardens, and exhibitions are open on a daily basis from early April until the end of July. They are closed to the Public during August, September and early October because the Royal Family would be in residence.
